  1. Purpose of Position

Assists We Are Family Home (WAFHOME) domestic violence shelter residents and provides on-site security after normal work hours.

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answer WAF Home's 24-hour emergency crisis/intake line after business hours and as needed to provide crisis management to callers seeking shelter, including domestic violence survivors;
  • Maintains non-corporal discipline. Models, explains and enforces Shelter rules, policies and procedures to children and their parent(s);
  • Ensures that the child care room(s) and play area(s) are neat, clean and in adherence with State and local health standards;
  • Monitors and maintains the security of all entrances & parking lot of WAFHOME;
  • Complete screening process to fill available shelter space; complete intake process for client entry including data collection and reporting;
  • Provide crisis intervention and referrals over the phone for those seeking shelter and other services, not limited to domestic violence;
  • Assist emergency shelter residents by providing resources, supplies, information, and referrals;
  • Effectively develop safety plans with survivors of domestic violence, including shelter residents, walk-ins and over the phone;
  • Provide services and advocate for WAFHOME clients and their children on a case by case basis, providing crisis intervention assessment and case management as well as referrals to outside agencies;
  • Maintain and update client files regularly to provide up-to-date data collection and reporting;
  • Develop ongoing relationships with other service providers such as those in health and legal systems to assist clients with navigating systems and to provide referrals;
  • Work cooperatively within a team to provide quality support services to WAFHOME clients;
  • Attend staff meetings; and
  • Complete 20 hours of DV training prior to providing supportive services to clients thereafter maintain 20 hours of DV continuing education training annually.
  1. Position Requirements, Competencies and Qualifications
  • Bilingual in one or more Asian, Pacific Islander or Hispanic languages preferred spoken and written.
  • Satisfactorily pass criminal history and reference check.
  • Knowledge of, and compassion and sensitivity to, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and sexual abuse preferred.
  • Knowledge and practical use of trauma-informed care and services, preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with people from diverse cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication & organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to work with people of diversity;
  • Complete HIV/AIDS prevention training after being hired; and
  • View training video, "Making a CPS Referral: A Guide for Mandated Reporter".

3.1 Educational Level

  • High school diploma or foreign school equivalent required;
  • Some college or AA degree (any humanities discipline) preferred.

3.2 Experience in Related Field

  • Three to six months' related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience

  1. Physical demands:
  2. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move an object.
  3. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, standing, bending, twisting, reaching (at, below & above shoulder level) and driving.

  29. Near Vision:
  30. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  31. Mid-range Vision:
  32. Clarity of vision at distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  33. Far-range Vision:
  34. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
