  1. Purpose of Position

This position will conduct consistent outreach activities to increase the number of people participating in the Basic Food Outreach Program. This job description covers a number of BFO positions that can be located throughout KWA' operational area. These positions vary as to what language is required and will be specified for job announcements. The work is conducted 80-90 percent outside of the office. Incumbent may be required to attend/present events in the evening and on weekends. 

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Help clients complete application for food stamps;
  • Plan and execute outreach events. Events may be in the evening and on weekends;
  • Make presentations about program one-on-one and to groups of people;
  • Develop and translate outreach materials in specified language, as needed;
  • Publicize program and develop relationships with community leaders, other service providers, etc.;
  • Provide monthly report of programs effectiveness; and
  • Drives to various locations through assigned county(s) to help clients complete applications. 

Secondary Position Tasks

  • Participate in meal site operations as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training as requested.

 

  1. Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • Satisfactorily pass criminal history and reference checks;
  • Must have bilingual ability to speak, read and write English and specific language for job assignment (specified in job announcement);
  • Must have current driver's license, reliable transportation, current auto insurance;
  • Strong understanding of assigned community, including best way for outreach in this community;
  • Self-motivated, communicates well with all people;
  • Good computer skills data entry, MS Office, MS Excel;
  • Ability to produce quality written communications;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure; and
  • Ability to work with people of diversity. 
  • Educational Level

Must have high school diploma or equivalent;

Some college preferred. 

  • Experience

Experience in community outreach, advocacy and/or organizing preferred.

  8. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking and standing and driving for extended periods of time.

  7. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
